What is the YHL? The YHL (AKA Youth Hockey League) is our version of recreational hockey for children ages 10 & younger. Separate age divisions are kept to ensure the safety of the players. The skill level varies throughout the league with the ranges being from beginner through intermediate. Advanced level players are encouraged to try-out for our local travel hockey club called the Riptide. All YHL games and practices are conducted at the Channel Islands Ice Center. Teams are selected during sign-ups by the Hockey Staff in an attempt to create league parity. The YHL is open to any player that has the desire to play hockey. Players will not be turned away because of skill level. It is the goal of the CIIC Hockey Staff to grow the sport of ice hockey through the development of FUN, informative, grassroots leagues such as the YHL. Teams practice and play an officiated game once per week during the season. Three seasons are offered every calendar year.
