I’d like to take this opportunity to give you some background about recent developments that have shaped our rink and the clubs that are the primary contributors and users of our two sheets of ice. This past summer, the ownership of the Oxnard Ice Skating Center informed the presidents of the Channel Islands Figure Skating Club and the Channel Islands Riptide Hockey Club of their plans to close down the facility. Subsequently, the two non-profit groups banded together in an effort to buy the facility and keep the doors open for the local skating community. As you can imagine, this was a huge undertaking. After only two months of research, fundraising, and volunteer efforts, the rink was saved and is now owned by the clubs and operated through an executive committee comprised primarily of prominent members of the two clubs. It has been a difficult road, however, we have been very successful in our efforts to inject renewed excitement into the local skating community and into our facility. This includes delivering a quality experience for all visitors to our facility. Since the takeover, we’ve heard many positive comments from patrons, which support our statements that our "rink has made vast improvements in cleanliness, service, and operational consistency".
